How to make an already free musical festival — featuring the likes of the Black Keys, Deadmau5, TV on the Radio and Patti Smith — even better? Free drinks! Served by Cee Lo Green and an actual knight! Sir Richard Branson, billionaire founder of the Virgin empire, joined the “F*** You” singer in slinging beverages to the delighted thirsty hordes in just one highlight of last weekend’s Virgin Mobile FreeFest in Columbia, Md.
The cool stunt went down at the West Stage’s Karma Bar, which gave a portion of proceeds to homeless youth charity The RE*Generation. FreeFest, which had already raised some $300K for the campaign, will certainly add to its charitable total with this year’s edition, with a reported 50,000 attendees.
CityRag was invited as part of the Virgin Mobile 25 initiative and we had a fabulous time catching NYC homegirl Smith, above, along with an electric TV on the Radio, a mesmerizing Deadmau5, and many, many other amazing acts (note: Ghostland Observatory should play every show in a laser-lighted forest). Many thanks to Virgin Mobile for a great time!
