The devastating news out of Japan in the wake of Friday’s 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami just gets worse and worse, with fears of nuclear meltdowns and radiation exposure becoming terrifying reality with each updated headline. It’s easy to feel helpless in the face of such overwhelming tragedy so many thousands of miles away, but it’s also easy to donate to one of the charitable organizations struggling to provide much-needed relief:

The Red Cross accepts donations on its website or via text message — text REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 directly from your phone.

GlobalGiving and Save the Children are among the many other trustworthy organizations raising funds. A comprehensive list of charities offering assistance is available at The Huffington Post.
