umbrella casualties
after this weekend’s crazy storm, here’s a site everyone in NYC (or any storm struck city!) can relate to… Hamish of Verbose Coma has been “documenting ‘broken’ umbrellas on sidewalks of the world” on his site: Broken Umbrella Archive. browsing this collection of simple and striking photos, you start to see an interesting geometry in the shapes and angles, and wonderful artistry in the way these broken casualties scatter the city. gave us a cool new perspective walking the streets after the storm (we took these photos in tribute.)

broken umbrellas have haunted everyone’s life to some extent. it’s very cool when a photographer takes imagery from our daily-life that we take for granted and “reveals” something new and eye opening about it. big props to Hamish for his original and inspiring website – Broken Umbrella Archive. and here’s a few more interesting photos and tales from people who’ve given pause to a broken umbrella:
- Rainy Day Umbrellas – beautiful photos and essay
- umbrella-broken – striking shot from a Japanese blog
- nice B & W photo
- pink-broken-abandoned-umbrella
- cool broken umbrellas on flickr
